The Lices market, a Saturday that counts
Every Saturday morning, Place des Lices hosts one of the three largest markets in France. Under the Martenot halls, you meet local producers, Saint-Malo fish, Plélan vegetables, cheeses, crêpes and pâtés. Tradition calls for a galette-saucisse eaten standing, with a chat. Nothing better to lower the barriers of a first date: you taste, you smile, you leave with your arms full.
Crêperies and cider bars
The Rennes crêperies hide in the paved alleys around Rue Saint-Georges, Rue Vasselot or Place du Champ-Jacquet. Complete galettes, bottled cider served in a bowl, caramelised apples: the menu is short and perfect. You share a bowl, you compare flavours, and you often linger over a pommeau digestif. A simple format that puts everyone at ease.
Central halls and sweet treats
The Central Halls, recently reopened, concentrate Breton indulgence, from churn butter to far breton. In the bakeries, the kouign-amann vies with the gâteau breton, both pure butter. On Lyad, members from Rennes share their favourite crêperies and wine shops: it is up to you to find someone to raise the cider bowl with.
